From the Principal

Dear Parents and Friends of Mary MacKillop College,

Finally this week we are seeing some sunshine and warmer weather! We welcomed our Year 8s for 2017 for their Transition Day. We saw lots of very excited girls and the Principal was excited for our new students who are in the last few weeks of Year 7 and embarking on the next stage of their schooling.

Our Year 12 students are in the midst of their SACE Examinations and Year 10 and 11 students are busily preparing for their exams in the next few weeks.

A highlight for me recently was the Collage of Migration with our Chair of the College Board, Gess Carbone, sharing her migrant story. The Collage is a very emotional event and underlines the importance of family and social connection. We share Gess' story with you in the article below.

I encourage you to follow our Facebook page to stay in touch with all the College activities.

From the Deputy Principal

What a perfect day for the sun to finally show itself – Year 7 Transition Day.  Girls arrived nervous and excited ready to begin their time as MacKillop girls and were greeted by students in Year 8 who just a short time ago began their journey at the College.  We warmly welcome our new MacKillop girls and trust that their day found them in the good company of wonderful teachers and students.

Making a difference - one student's story

During the school holidays, my sister and I decided that we would cut our hair and donate it to the Cancer Council, where they would make wigs for the cancer patients. It is something that my sister and I had been thinking of doing for a while, and we felt particularly inspired to do so after having experienced so many family members being diagnosed with cancer.

Year 7 Visual Art Workshops with St Joseph's Memorial School

This term, the Year 7 students from St Joseph’s Memorial School participated in workshops in our College Art Rooms. This allowed for a college environment for the students and a chance to work with clay in a specialised environment. Students learnt about the qualities of clay and how to work and create pieces using the slab process of hand building.

Opening Prayer

Prayer for Remembrance Day
Lord our God, we entrust all our prayers and needs to your infinite mercy. Help us to become ever more mindful of the bonds that unite us as a human family despite our differences. Heal our inner wounds and outward divisions, that one day our world might live in your true and lasting peace.  We make this prayer to you in the name of Jesus, your Son.

Amen
