Dance at Mary MacKillop College

17.11.16

The Dance program has kicked off in an exciting way in Term 4 with special guest teachers and choreographers Albert Tetevi and Jasmine Golding joining our Year 8s and 9s.

Albert Tetevi, who goes by the stage name ‘Blink’, is a professional dancer and freelance choreographer who offers his talents and expertise to many schools and dance studios in Adelaide. Having danced alongside superstars such as Jennifer Lopez, Justice Crew and Timomatic, and having choreographed, performed and competed in many events and competitions, it is clear that his experience is plentiful. Our Year 8 Dance classes have been lucky enough to have Albert run four Hip Hop workshops in their practical lessons to commence this term. He had the students engaged with his personality, which assisted them to capably learn a set piece of choreography to a remix of ‘Where is the Love?’

Contrastingly, Jasmine Golding has extensive knowledge and experience in contemporary, ballet, jazz and musical theatre after having danced since she was six years old. After having danced professionally in many corporate gigs, and winning many state and national titles, Jasmine has graced our Year 9s with her extended lines and flawless technique in an expressive contemporary unit. The girls are learning a new routine encompassing canons, abstract movements and technical elements, whilst also learning the fundamentals in contemporary through technique work. The unit will continue running for one more week.

Both Dance classes will showcase their new routines in Week 6 at the ‘Good News’ assembly, and the Dance Performance Team, who placed second at the State Championships in September, will also be presented.

We look forward to Dance at MMC in 2017, as it will be filled with fun, technique, routines and the implementation of the SACE program at Stage 1!
