St Vincent de Paul Winter Knitting Club

A lunchtime service group where students knit with purpose, creating warmth and hope for those in need.

At Mary MacKillop College, our commitment to service and community is woven into everyday life, including through initiatives like the St Vincent de Paul Winter Knitting Club.

During Terms 2 and 3, each Monday at lunchtime, students gather in the Library to knit squares that are sewn into blankets for people experiencing homelessness or hardship in Adelaide. This student-led group supports the work of St Vincent de Paul and is a practical expression of our Catholic ethos of compassion, outreach and justice.

Students of all year levels are welcome to participate, whether they are experienced knitters or learning the skill for the first time. All materials including needles and wool are provided, and older students or staff are always on hand to teach and support newcomers.

Beyond the knitting itself, the group fosters friendship, teamwork and a sense of purpose. It’s a space where students come together to connect, contribute and reflect on the difference small acts of kindness can make in the lives of others.

The Knitting Club is just one of many service opportunities available at Mary MacKillop College, encouraging students to live out our values and develop empathy and leadership through action.
