From the Acting Director of Students

Once again, the corridors are rich with laughter and conversations - bustling with staff and students as we begin the 2020 school year. Year 7 and new Year 8 students and their families were warmly welcomed to the College last Tuesday. During the assembly, students received a lily badge, an outwards sign that they have joined the Mary MacKillop College community. The morning also provided students and families with an insight into Student Leadership and tradition as the Student Leadership Team were presented with their blazers. Wednesday saw all students return and lessons got underway. The start of a term brings a wonderful energy as the girls experience new lessons, topics, meet new friends and set new goals.

Year 7 students have taken their first two weeks of high school in their stride; they involved themselves in swimming races and took part in the novelty activities. It was also great to see so many of the senior students participating in the carnival under the leadership of House Captains, Gabriella (Flora), Bianca (Alexander), Maddison (Tenison) and Lucinda (Tappeiner).

As we move into Week 3, various cocurricular opportunities will arise such as swim squad or Saturday sport and I encourage the girls to put their hand up and have a ago. Year 7, 8 and 9 students will be off on their respective camps. Like cocurricular activities, camps provide students with experiences that challenge and encourage resilience, where new friendships can be discovered and old friendships strengthened. We hope all students and staff have a wonderful time away.

I encourage all families to attend the Parent Evenings held this term. On Monday the 10 February, we invite all Year 7 families to join us at 7.00pm to meet your daughters Pastoral Care Teacher and Coordinator. The evening will also be a chance for families to meet each other.

On the Tuesday 18 February, we are fortunate to have Madonna King present to families on the importance of building and maintaining connections with their teen and the impact when the connection is lost. Please R.S.V.P. to Lucy Levato via by Friday 14 February.

I wish all students, staff and families a wonderful Term 1 and look forward to sharing more news with you from this great place we call Mary MacKillop College.
