From the Principal

Last week’s Good News Assembly was particularly delightful as it was the culmination of fundraising efforts by our students to raise money for Project Compassion through the Fashion for Compassion initiative. Our 2021 Year 7 students also attended the Assembly so they were able to experience the MacKillop difference.

From the Deputy Principal

There have been some great things to celebrate throughout the year so far, but for our senior students, particularly our Year 12 students, it is the “Premiership Quarter”! Term 3 represents the final full term of school for our graduating students, and with that comes the responsibility of final assignments, university applications, and plans for next year. We continue to pray for our Year 12 students as they enter this final phase of their formal schooling.

Leadership @ MMC - Fashion for Compassion

The Project Compassion countries this year were Australia, India, Malawi, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines and Cambodia. Before the pandemic, each week the school 'travelled' to a country and participated in activities, such as dot painting and Just Dance in order to learn about their culture. To raise awareness and understanding of the living conditions of people involved in Caritas, each week classes watched a video sharing the stories of individuals and communities benefiting from our donations.

Year 9 Retreat

On Thursday 30 and Friday the 31 of July, the Year 9 cohort attended their class Retreat. We each started our Retreat Day at St Mary’s Church, Port Adelaide, where we learnt about the significance of this particular church to Mary MacKillop and the Sisters of St Joseph. While we were there, we started off the day with a prayer and learnt that this was the very church where Mary MacKillop was presented to the community of Adelaide.

Opening Prayer

There where you are you will find God

Mary MacKillop 1871

Nature is one of the places where we experience our deepest encounters with the divine mystery. It is a natural place for meeting God. No wonder Hildergard believed that the mystic is one who is in love with the world of nature. Pope Francis in Laudato Si, praises creation for the way it reminds us of our original blessing, and God's unfailing love. We all need to be connected to the soul of the earth; links us to the love-energy of the Creator-Mother we call God.

Through the world all things came into being, and apart from the word nothing came into being that has come into being.
John 1:3
