Welcome to 2019. I would like to wish a very special welcome to our new students and families. It has been a busy two weeks as we have welcomed the girls and begun our learning. We are looking forward to another exciting year of teaching and learning, along with our College activities. If, during the year, you have any queries regarding the teaching and learning of your daughter, or subject selection please do not hesitate to contact me.

It is with much pleasure I share with you the Stage 2 2018 Year 12 SACE results.

SACE 2018 Stage 2 Academic Achievements
As a school community we are very proud of the academic achievements of the 2018 Year 12 students. 100% of the cohort have been successful in achieving their SACE Certificate. 98% of those who applied to SATAC have been offered a place at University, with 80% being accepted into their first preference. We warmly wish all the graduates of 2018 every success for the future.

The Dux of the College for 2018 was Emily Furno who achieved an ATAR of 97.45.  Proxime Accessit was Stephanie Kennihan who achieved 96.7, closely followed by Olivia Monteleone who achieved 96.6. Two Merits were achieved by Emily Furno in Child Studies and Marika Augustine for Religion Studies.

The 2018 students achieved, 22 A+ grades, 40 A grades and 43 A-, which resulted in 38.7 % of all grades attained as As. Overall 89.6 % of all grades were As or Bs, an outstanding achievement.

10 students or 22% of the class of 2018 attained an ATAR above 90, which places them in the  top 10% of the state. A further 11 students, 24% of the cohort achieved an ATAR between 80 – 89. Therefore, 46% of our students received an ATAR that places them in the top 20% of the state. While overall, 70% of our students  attained an ATAR over 70 which places them in the top 30% of the state.

I would like to personally and publicly thank all our staff for their commitment and professionalism to our students and to the families for their support and guidance which has enabled our Year 12 students to achieve such outstanding results. Once again, congratulations to the Class of 2018; as a community, we wish them all the best in the future.

SEQTA Engage
For our new families, we would like to invite you to set up SEQTA Engage. SEQTA is our school Learning Management System and Engage is the parent portal for this system. Very soon you will receive an email welcoming you to SEQTA Engage.

The best way for you to access the portal will be to download the app for any smartphone and log in using the QR code you will receive in the email soon. You will be able to access your daughter’s timetable, receive her report, view results for assessment tasks, direct message school staff and access school documents from this portal. You may also log in via the SEQTA Engage website.

It is imperative that we have a current email address for you to receive this email and since we are increasingly moving our school correspondence to email and the use of SEQTA Engage. If you change your email address, please contact the school directly to have it updated. If you have any problems logging into SEQTA or if you have forgotten your log in credentials, please email my office curriculum@marymackillop.sa.edu.au.

Careers & Pathways
Each newsletter, there will be a careers and pathways bulletin that outlines course offerings in VET, important dates and information regarding future pathways and tertiary study, and any short courses that may be available. This bulletin is also emailed to all students in Year 10, 11 & 12. Please take the time to discuss these options with your daughter or I can be contacted by phone or email to discuss career or pathway options with you in more detail.

Message for Year 7- 10 Families – Jacaranda textbooks
As outlined in your booklist information for 2019, all textbooks are provided in an e-format through Jacaranda Publishing. Each student needed to purchase this bundle of textbooks through Jacaranda’s portal on their website prior to the commencement of the school year. To date, some families have not finalised this purchase.

Although students will have access to their textbooks to commence the school year, if this purchase is not completed within the next week, student accounts will be deactivated and therefore students will not have access to their textbooks. I respectfully ask that families who have not completed their payment with Jacaranda complete this by Friday 15 February.

If you are unsure how to access the Jacaranda portal, a copy of the relevant flyer with instructions can be found on the school website under the 'News and Events' tab, then go to 'Student Updates and Forms'.

If you have any further queries regarding booklists, please do not hesitate to contact my office via email: curriculum@marymackillop.sa.edu.au
