In the Year of Youth…

That we might have the vision and courage to reach out to young people through new and uncharted horizons with a joyous, understanding and listening heart.

Year 8 Retreat – “In the footsteps of Mary MacKillop…in Kensington”

On Thursday 24 May, the Year 8 students attended their retreat “In the Footsteps of Mary MacKillop…. In Kensington”. The students were given the opportunity to learn more about the life and work of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop in Kensington. They walked to locations associated with Mary MacKillop and spent some time in the Parish Hall enjoying various activities that encouraged them to learn more about themselves and God. Not only did they share time with their peers and teachers, but also the Year 11 Peer Support Leaders.

Here are some of the comments made by the Year 8 students:

“There is a lot more history behind Mary MacKillop than what I thought”

“I learnt that I can be a good leader when my team needed me”

“One thing I learnt about being a student at Mary MacKillop College was how supportive and accepting all the other students are…”

“I enjoyed the walk around Kensington and learning about Mary MacKillop”

“I thoroughly enjoyed the guided meditation as when looking through the windows there is another side of me that people don’t usually see”

“I learnt how Mary MacKillop had such an impact on the actions of the students at the school”

The retreats are a great opportunity for spiritual growth.

Corpus Christi Mass

On Thursday 31 May, the College gathered as a community to celebrate Corpus Christi by having a mass at St Ignatius Church. This mass is celebrated because the Eucharist was of great importance to St Mary of the Cross MacKillop.
