Congratulations to Aditi (Year 8), Kiara (Year 9) and Georgia (Year 10) who have nominated to participate in the 2018 Rostrum Voice of Youth competition. Sponsored by Bendigo Bank, Mount Gambier & District Community Bank (Bendigo), Immanuel College, Aurora Ozone Hotel, English Speaking Union and Parliament House, Voice of Youth is a national public speaking competition for students from Year 7 to Year 12. Contestants are judged on presentation of a prepared speech and a short notice speech. This year, a record number of 190 entries were received from 31 schools. In South Australia and the Northern Territory, Zone Heats will be held in Adelaide, the South East and Darwin.
The Adelaide competition begins with a series of heats on Saturday 12 May, followed by Semi-finals on 26 May. Mary MacKillop College students are performing in the afternoon heats at 1.30pm at Immanuel College, Novar Gardens. Parents, teachers and friends are invited to attend and support the girls in their respective heats. Public speakers love an audience!
SA/NT Rostrum Voice of Youth culminates with a Zone Final held at the House of Assembly, Parliament House, North Terrace at 7.00pm on Saturday 23 June. Speaking in this prestigious venue is a special experience for the finalists. The winners of the Junior and Senior SA/NT Finals will progress to a National Final on Thursday 28 July in Perth.
