Athletics Carnival

Tappeiner once again claims victory at the 2018 Mary MacKillop College Athletics Carnival.

On Friday 16 March, staff and students, dressed as witches and wizards, joined together to embrace the Harry Potter theme at this year’s annual Athletics Carnival. The four houses enthusiastically adapted to their Harry Potter themed house for the day; Gryffindor (Alexander), Hufflepuff (Tenison), Slytherin (Tappeiner) and Ravenclaw (Flora).

The day was filled with many achievements, celebrations and fun across 16 different track and field events. Congratulations to the eight students across Years 8 - 12 and Ms Penna who won the best dressed awards. Under the leadership of our Sport Captains Jacinta, Nadia, Gianna and Trinity, participation was taken to the next level with events full of students and House scores ticking over all day.

On behalf of the Sports Department and College, I would like to congratulate the following age group winners and runners up:

  • U/14 Runner Up: Amber
  • U/14 Champion: Ella
  • U/15 Runner Up: Daniella

  • 100m Sprint Champion: Lucy 13:29 seconds

Flora House under the guidance and leadership of Captain, Jacinta were the Spirit Award winners for 2018. They cheered, sang and danced all day long.

The final results for the day were:

  • 1st position: Tappeiner with 881 points
  • 2nd position: Alexander with 736 points
  • 3rd position: Tenison with 677 points

Congratulations to all members of Tappeiner House and to Sports Captain, Trinity. We look forward to next year’s Athletics Carnival.

Catholic Girls School Swimming and Athletics

On Wednesday 16 March, 18 girls competed at the SACSSGSA Swimming carnival. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge their dedication in attending several early morning swim squad training sessions leading up to the carnival and to thank Ms Parente and Ms Morrish for supervising the sessions and supporting the squad. Our girls were wonderful representatives of the College and competed to the best of their ability on the night. Unfortunately, this year the competition seemed to have stepped up a level as the other schools were very challenging to beat. Overall, Mary MacKillop College finished in 4th place in B grade.

Not long after our own Athletics Carnival, it was time to hit the track and field again for the SACSSGSA Athletics Carnival. On Tuesday 20 March, the team, consisting of 34 students, competed in various events throughout the day with many of them achieving 1st or 2nd place in their events. Special congratulations to the students who competed in the Under 15 events. Their fantastic achievements resulted in Mary MacKillop College being the Under 15 Age Group Champions. Overall, Mary MacKillop College were the runners up in the B Grade Competition.
