Recently Mary MacKillop College art and design students have experienced incredible successes as entrants in various national fashion design competitions. Year 8 student, Anastasia and Year 11 student, Mackenzie entered the annual Apex Australian Teenage Fashion Awards. The judging and parade took place at Scotch College on Sunday 20 August where Mackenzie won first place in the ‘Wearable Art’ category. Mackenzie's winning garment incorporated an imaginatively woven paper bodice, painted canvas skirt and tulle trail, with a matching neckpiece. It was confidently modelled by her sister and Year 8 student, Ava.
The winning dress was on display at the Art Gallery of South Australia in August and then again at Mitcham Council Exhibition from September to October. Mackenzie will also be taking part in the national finals in Perth later this year and has received an over locker machine as part of her prize. We look forward to seeing more of her exciting designs in the future. We would also like to congratulate Anastasia on her glamorous Formal Wear category entry.
This year the Year 10 design class entered the national Wool4School Fashion Competition. With over 1000 entrants Australia wide our student, Olivia was outstanding as one of only two South Australian students who was chosen as a finalist. Well done, Olivia!
We encourage all students interested in fashion design to participate in these annual competitions and we offer our support and guidance in your future creative endeavours!
