Music Matters

13.09.16

Last Wednesday evening saw our main event for the year. Our annual Music Night. The College Gymnasium was transformed into a wonderful performance venue with the help of multi-level staging and elaborate lighting setting the scene. Families crowded in to watch their daughters perform and relaxed in the cabaret style setting while enjoying the show which this year had a Disco theme.

As was hoped, the staging and lighting brought out the best in the students who rose to new heights as the sense of occasion washed over them. It was such a pleasure to see the excellent end-result to what has been for many, an intense term of preparation for the event. Many skills were refined in the preparation process as well as the presentation process, and that elusive pursuit of perfection drew that little bit closer for many of our performers.

This year Music Night had many new faces, some as soloists, some in the ensembles. It was clear the next generation of MMC musicians are already among us. Congratulations to all the music students who performed. I am so proud of your efforts as I hope you are also. The 2-hour show that took 10 hours to set up the day before was well worth it. I would do it all again in a heartbeat...next year!
