The MMC community celebrates at the official Opening and Blessing of the Sister Colleen Roberts Music Centre
On Wednesday 2 May the Mary MacKillop College community celebrated the official opening of the much anticipated Sister Colleen Roberts Music Centre.
This facility has provided the College with a recording studio, live recording room, computer facilities, sound proofed practice rooms as well as classrooms and a seminar room. Overlooking the paved landscaped area, this centre has become a focal point of the school grounds for girls to gather to enjoy the sunshine, rehearse their musical talents and perform on the amphitheatre deck.

Italian students pay tribute to the Italian fallen soldiers at the recent Payneham Cemetery Ceremony
April 25th is a day of significant importance here in Australia, but it is also a day of remembrance for those who died for the Liberation of Italy.
Four senior students of Italian, Jessica Greco, Jessica Nunnari, Claudia Pisaniello and Lucymarie Silvestri, represented the College at the recent ceremony held at Payneham Cemetery to commemorate the Italian fallen soldiers of the two World Wars.

Year 12 students take time out for their Retreat to reflect on their journey so far and reconnect with God
The Year 12 Retreat was held at Nunyara Conference Centre in Belair and was an was an opportunity for students to reflect on the Year 12 journey so far and reconnect with God. The Retreat was facilitated by the NET Team and supported by a group of teachers. The NET Leaders who came from Canada, Australia and The United States, were entertaining, inspirational and above all very spiritual. They presented two days filled with small group discussions, role plays and dramas, stories and explanations of their journeys in faith. Their role plays had a much deeper meaning and they helped students to realise that God would always be there for them, regardless of how many times they shut God out.

All students have the opportunity to join our weekly Homework Club sessions
All students are offered support with homework through the College Homework Club. They have the opportunity to access the facilities of our well resourced Library and are given support from a team of teachers, representing all curriculum areas.
The Homework Club is held every Wednesday afternoon from 3.30pm – 4.30pm in the College Library.

Excited students begin preparing for the Biennial 2012 Tour of Italy
It is with much excitement that the College announces its Biennial 2012 Tour of Italy. Preparations are well underway for this once in a lifetime opportunity that is available to our students in Years 10 and 11 who undertake Italian Studies.
This year’s tour will see students departing Adelaide from 15 September 2012 and returning on the 5 October 2012.

Year 11 and 12 students arrive in style for their 2012 Black and White themed Formal
The 2012 Year 11 & 12 Formal was held on Saturday 24 March at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
The 2012 Prefects organised an elegant Black and White themed evening for all students to attend.
The students had a wonderful evening and we thank all staff for their support leading up to and during the night.

The MMC community enjoy perfect weather for the annual Athletics Carnival
Congratulations to all students and staff involved in the 2012 Mary MacKillop College Athletics Carnival.
Today the Mary MacKillop College community enjoyed perfect weather for its annual Athletics Carnival. Come 2pm, only 5 points separated the top three teams.

MMC leaders attend the Impact Leadership Day Conference
Today 23 student leaders from both the Middle and Senior School were given the opportunity to attend a Student Leadership Conference at Allan Scott Park.
The Impact Leadership Conference is designed to develop leadership skills (capabilities and competencies) among young people so that they can have a positive influence on those around them.

Students take part in the 2012 Swimming Carnival
Congratulations to the College community on a memorable Swimming Carnival. The improvement in student involvement in the day was very pleasing. A big thanks and congratulations to our eight Senior Sports Captains and four Middle School Sports Captains on their hard work.

Italcanti perform at the St Gabriel's Feast Day celebrations
This week Italcanti travelled to Star of the Sea School at Henley Beach to take part in the Carnevale celebrations for Shrove Tuesday. The girls were enthusiastically received by the students who paraded their colourful masks to the familiar songs. On Sunday, Italcanti performed at the St Gabriel’s Feast Day Celebrations at St Paul’s Monastery. Invited every year to perform at this wonderful festival, the girls were commended for their vibrant delivery and for bringing much joy to the audience who look forward to this annual event.

The MMC community celebrates with the Ash Wednesday Liturgy
Today we celebrated the beginning of our journey to Easter - a time for reflection on how we are living our lives. The theme was’ Break through the wall and light our world’, as during Lent we are reminded to break through this wall and look inside our hearts, to ask forgiveness for the times when we have not loved and to ask for God’s help in changing our hearts so that we can love others in the way that God wants.

Distinguished Guests, Families, Staff and Students,
I would like to thank the school for the opportunity to speak today at the Beginning of Year Mass. It is a great honour to be awarded school Dux for the Class of 2011 and I am very grateful for this recognition. The truth is, however, I would not be standing here today without the support of my family, friends and teachers.
