From the Principal

The school year has begun with all of the excitement, ritual and celebration we have come to expect at Mary MacKillop College. The Year 8 and 12 students had their first day of the school year together, led by their Pastoral Care Coordinators and Teachers. During a small ceremony Year 12 students received their senior badge and Year 8 students receive the Lily pin. 

On Thursday 8 February our school community gathered for our Beginning of Year Mass at St Ignatius Church. We gathered in the presence of God to welcome in the New Year and acknowledge the academic results from 2017. The new school year offers us an opportunity to review our personal growth and make some new goals. During this Mass we introduced the theme for 2018, “Find Happiness in making others Happy”. We are reminded by St Mary of the Cross MacKillop that true happiness can be found in the way we are with others, thinking of others happiness in the small things that we do.

As the school year commences I want to assure all parents and carers of our absolute commitment to ensuring that Mary MacKillop College is a safe place for all.

Whether it is starting school for the first time, moving up to a higher grade or embarking on a journey through secondary school, there is no doubt that any school transition is a very exciting time for children and parents. It means your children are growing up!

Join us on Sunday 4 March for our College Open Day.

Between 12.00pm and 2.00pm you will be welcomed by our College Principal. As you join a tour group you will experience a taste of Mary MacKillop College by visiting our learning areas and meeting our wonderful staff and students.

As the school year begins, we pray for our school community and all who gather here.

May the year ahead find us serving others, seeking justice.

May we find ourselves listening to others, seeking compassion.

May we find ourselves loving others, seeking understanding.

May we find Mary’s words in our hearts and look to bring happiness to each other.

May we seek to know Jesus’ message of loving our neighbour ourselves.

Sunshine, swimming, cheering, green mythical creatures, blue characters, yellow hippies and red lifeguards were the perfect combination for the MMC Swimming Carnival held on Friday 2 February. The leadership and organsiation from our four Sports Captains was tested in the very first week of school and they did not disappoint. I commend Trinity, Nadia, Gianna and Jacinta on their outstanding leadership and enthusiasm displayed on Friday and leading up to the carnival.

Parents and friends are invited to volunteer in the canteen which is a great opportunity to broaden friendships and enhance the environment for our MacKillop girls. If you are able to join our happy crew of volunteers, by helping for a few hours, from as little as once a month, our Canteen Manager Narelle Matthews would love to hear from you!
