From the Principal

The first week of the school year is an opportunity to welcome students back to the routine of school life.  This week we have delighted in the arrival of four classes of Year 8 students along with several new students across all year levels. The Student Leadership Team has enjoyed opportunities to lead two assemblies, receive their blazers with the yellow braiding, hand over badges to Year 12 and 8 students along with embarking on two days of planning for the school year. 

As I take on the exciting role of Sport Coordinator, I look forward to the many opportunities to work alongside students, families and staff of the College. I cannot wait to see our MMC girls in action at Saturday morning sport and at numerous carnivals and knockout competitions throughout the year.

On December 1st, 2016, nine eager Mary MacKillop College students, along with two teachers and Antipodeans Abroad, departed Adelaide to embark on what would could only be described as an extremely eye-opening and exciting three week experience in Cambodia. 

The overarching reason for the trip was to not only build initiative, teamwork and a greater appreciation for life within each student, but to help a very poor family in a rural community through building a new house, garden and chicken shed, so that they may support themselves.

Welcome back to the 2017 school year. It has been a busy few days as we have welcomed the girls and begun our teaching and learning programs. I would like to extend a very warm welcome to our new families and if you have any queries regarding the teaching and learning of your daughter, or subject selection please don’t hesitate to contact me. 

The Following reflection was shared by our Religious Education Coordinator Adriana Sotira at our Staff Beginning of Year Mass:

“Gratitude is the memory of the heart.” Such were the words of Mary MacKillop in 1907. At Mary MacKillop College there have been many rich memories of blessings and many related feelings of gratitude.  

As students return to school this week we bring to your attention some changes to parking in High Street.

Parents and friends are invited to volunteer in the canteen which is a great opportunity to broaden friendships and enhance the environment for our MacKillop girls. If you are able to join our happy crew of volunteers, by helping for a few hours, from as little as once a month to weekly or daily, our Canteen Manager Narelle Matthews would love to hear from you!
